Honduras is a small Central American country that is bordered by Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, the Pacific Ocean, and the Caribbean Sea. It is slightly larger than Tennessee and consists of two coastal strips and broad fertile plains broken by deep valleys and mountain ranges. The majority of Hondurans are Mestizo (mixed Native American and European ancestry) with the remaining inhabitants consisting of Native American, blacks, and Europeans. Spanish is the official language; few people are fluent in English. Bananas are the main export followed by coffee, cotton, sugar, and tobacco. Hondurans are primarily Roman Catholic. Gang violence has been increasing due to the heavy drug trafficking that takes place in the country.
